Frank and Ollie

Frank and Ollie are the masterminds behind a lot of disney's early animations. From lady and the tramp to jungle book and a whole lot more. They were part of disnay's animators known as the 7 old men (i think).

They were truely great, With animation being a huge part of my life, even from an early age i was interested in how animation worked. Now with the power of DVDs and the fantastic bonus features i can now watch how these geniuses worked.

These two guys worked on the greats, in my childhood i loved jungle book and recently it has been re-released on a double disc DVD. The film is still brilliant and looks great. Knowing what i know now i look at these animation films in a different light. A load of different animators when into making these films (and still do), but when you break the film down you can see the different styles of drawings by the animators. For example in jungle book the Elephant characters look sketchy and rough, which is widely different to the Frank and Ollie's Baloo and Bagheera.
This is something that interests me. Knowing that several different style artist can come together and make a flick.

Updates

Since my last blog I have changed my story. Instead of a Bee in the Rain, i've for An Egg and a Monster. I will scan my story boards in later so you can have a view.

Any Way, here are some test i have been doing.

Needs more work, doesn't have the kick and jump a real skip has.

A couple of frames needs taking out and a few others need moving, but all in all works well.

Over the past few weeks in animation class I have looked a several shorts,
some good, some bad.
Here are a collection of some GOOD animation shorts.



This is fantastic, i really like it. The animation is smooth, the sound is great, it has a nice drawing style and even the story relates well.
I wouldn't want to point out the negatives.



Great story behind this one, i can imagine disney picking this up and turning it into a full feature.

Lesson project

Today in animation class we had around two hours to create a stop motion short, the task given was it had to show "anticipation."
We had to get in small groups, i was with Alex and Rory.

Animation is the field i would like to pursue.

Alien Animation

This took me on and off all weekend, it started out as a quick sketch in my doodle pad and then i wanted to have a go at animating it. This is a loop of 7 frames, but i originally did more, not all of them worked.
I think this is a good start, Obviously its not finished, just basic colours at the moment. However its a step in the right direction.
